The story starts with an actor who was working on a Western more than a half
century ago, and he lost part of his hearing after hearing a gunshot near his
ear. He had to wear a hearing aid in each ear, one to aid in hearing and the
other to balance his hearing, and that man went on to become a US president.
It is estimated that approximately 24 million Americans suffer from some
form of hearing, language or speech problems. In fact, a study conducted by the
National Hearing Aid Society revealed that the number of Americans who suffer
from speech and hearing impairments will increase exponentially between 1980 and
2050. because there are so many Baby Boomers who are reaching retirement age.
With there being such a rising number of users in the future, hearing
aid manufacturers are attentively working on making their products better. The
hearing aids sold today, which are better able to differentiate between noise in
the background and actual speech, are able to hook onto the outer ear tactfully.
Even though there have been vast improvements with hearing aids through the
years, hearing aids are still not as good as they should be. Following long
periods of steady hearing loss, users usually realize that all of the new sounds
